Moud is a village to the southeast of Birjand in east Iran. Well respected, Moud rugs are amongst the most beautiful and detailed carpets made in Iran. They have the unique characteristic for a carpet that has a busy pattern of making a room appear bigger by giving it more depth. Admirers and collectors of the finest antique carpets and rugs pay especially close attention to Mood rugs, which, perhaps more than any other style, represent the soaring heights of artistic achievement that are achieved by the most talented rug makers.
Mouds are generally cut with a fairly thick pile, with an intricate all-over boteh, or Herati, pattern in shades of beiges, browns, blues and reds.
